Abstract (EN)

In this study, a date called ?The February 28 Process? which is a turning point in Turkish Political Life and Turkish Education System,and its effect to the Turkish Education System and the attitudes of the Government and Opposition Parties is discussed.The decisions taken in National Security Council in February 28, 1997 as followings :?The private dormitories, foundations and schools connected with the religious sects must be controlled by the authorized government?s organs and ensured to be transferred to the Ministry of National Education because of ?Tevhid-i Tedrisat Rule??It must be ensured that young generations should be aware of Republic, Atatürk and fondness of Homeland and Nation and of the aim to be modern civilization of Turkish People and to protect from effects of various focuses.?Eight year continuous education should be implemented all at home.?The necessary administrative and legal arrangements should be made for the children received the basic education, depending on the request of their families who will continue to attend the Kur?an Courses and for them to operate in the responsibility and control of the Ministry of Education.?Our National Education Establishments, responsible for raising enlightened religious leaders who are loyal to Republic Regime and Atatürk?s Principles and Revolutions, should be kept at the proper level to the core of the Unification of Education Law.have affected the process of the Turkish Education System crucially and this is called reform in education by some people and called coup process by others.Eight-year compulsory education and vocational high schools, especially the decisions in the middle parts of the closure of Imam Hatip Schools, created a great debate. In this process, the Welfare-Way Government with the Prime Minister of Necmettin Erbakan separated and then latter governments had to implement these decisions. Therefore The National Education System has been shaped according to these decisions and several projects have been put into effect to implement these decisions.
