Abstract (EN)
Objective: Pregnancy is the period in which the most physical and hormonal changes occur in women's lives. As this period is effective in all areas of life, it also affects the sleep quality and sleep pattern of the pregnant woman. In our study, the effect of sleep quality on pregnancy outcomes in third trimester pregnant women was investigated. Materials and Methods: Pregnant women aged 18 years and older, 32 weeks and older, who applied to Adıyaman Training and Research Hospital, Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic were included in our study. The Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PUKI) was used to detect sleep disorders in these pregnant women. A total of 5 points or more indicates poor sleep quality, and 200 pregnant women with a score of 5 and above were grouped as group 1 and 200 pregnant women with a score below 5 were grouped as group 2.Group1 and group2 were compared according to demographic characteristics, pregnancy complications and pregnancy outcomes. Statistical analyzes were performed using SPSS 22 (Statistical Package for Social Sciences). Quantitative variables were presented as frequency and percentage. Among the variables, Chi-Square, One-Way Variance and T-Test were applied to independent groups. Significance level was determined as p< 0.05. Results: It was found that the risk of developing sleep disorder increased as the gestational week increased (p=0.809). A moderate correlation was found between age, history of abortion and ectopic pregnancy. There was a weak correlation between gravida, parity and the number of living children. Group1; When examined, it was found that there was a linear relationship between the PUKI score and the risk of developing Intrauterine Growth Retardation, Gestational Diabetes Mellitus, Preeclampsia, Premature Birth Threat, Pregnancy Cholestasis, and Oligohydramnios. In this group, the strongest correlation was found between sleep disorder and Intrauterine Growth Retardation (r=0.705), and a moderate correlation was found between oligohydramnios (r=0.524). In addition, according to the Pittsburg sleep quality index, there was no statistically significant difference between group1 and group2 in terms of these diseases. Conclusion: As a result of the study, the presence of sleep disturbance in third trimester pregnants increases the incidence of diseases such as Intrauterine Growth Retardation, Gestational Diabetes Mellitus, Preeclampsia, Premature Birth Threat, Pregnancy Cholestasis, Oligohydramnios. However, when we compare it with the control group, there is no statistically significant difference in the incidence of these diseases. With these results, we believe that sleep disturbance complicates pregnancy outcomes, but there is no specific etiological reason for these complications. Studies with larger case series are needed to reach a definite conclusion about this.
