Abstract (EN)

The characterization of the cellular activities during two and threedimensional (2D & 3D) cell culturing is a significant matter in a variety of tissue engineering applications. A non-invasive multielectrode based electrical impedance measurement platform was developed for monitoring cell growth and proliferation of cell cultures. The bioimpedance platform was made up of a circular culture chamber with four vertical silver coated electrodes that were utilized in two terminal (2T) measurement configurations. Prostate cancer cells (Du145) were cultured in the cell culture systems (2D & 3D) to study cell growth and proliferation by measuring the changes in impedance. The experimental results show that the impedance measurements gradually increased in time in correlation with colorimetric cell viability measurements. This technique can be used for online monitoring of cell viability in 3D bio-printed constructs and for development of new drugs.
