Stakeholder views on reflections of 4+4+4 education system on secondary education

Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study is to analyze stakeholder views on reflections of 4 + 4 + 4 education system on secondary education in detail by taking the opinions of teachers, students, principals and parents. The population of this research is composed of teachers and administrators who work in different secondary schools in Tokat and students who attend in these schools and their parents. In the research, while choosing teachers, administrators, students and parents, it was paid attention to the schools which give different kinds of secondary education service and which are in different regions. In our research, the sample was determined with maximum variety sampling technique. This research is a qualitative research and interview method was used. Descriptive analysis was used in the analysis of the data obtained in this research, In the research results, teachers and administrators generally stated that the compulsory secondary education system is wrong, transition process was fast, no planning was done, education quality is affected in negative way in high schools, schools are qualified with physical infrastructure and technological equipments, curricula are updated, just school names changed, thanks to the compulsory secondary education students are under control, there is no change in vocational education, parents have important effects on students' education and open high school is necessary. Students stated that, they weren't informed about high school types during the process of passing to the high school, contents of the lessons are not enough, they wish choosing elective courses by themselves, the compulsory secondary education system is good and they need extra support while they are studying for the university exam. Parents expressed that the compulsory secondary education system is good, they were informed by TV about compulsory secondary education and they added that if the secondary education was not compulsory, they would still send their children to high school. While making changes in education systems, making a very wide participation plan, not making changes without necessary physical and technological infrastructure in the transition process to a new education system, not keeping the transition process too short, giving information to the teachers, administrators, students and parents about the changes and making changes in education system under the scientific data was suggested. For the next studies, it was suggested to the researchers to make research on some matters such as, how the secondary education system should be in Turkey, reasons and the solutions of discipline problems in high schools and why parents and students' interest on vocational and technical high schools decreased.
