Abstract (EN)
ABSTRACT DEFINING THE EFFECTIVE INSTRUCTION METHODS (ROLE PLAY AND 5E INSTRUCTION METHOD) FOR TEACHING SCIENCETECHNOLOGY- SOCIETY-ENVIROMENT SKILLS IN THE LEARNING AREA OF SUBSTANCE AND ITS EVOLUTION FOR 6TH GRADE STUDENTS In this study, 5E (engage, explore, explain, expand and evaluate) instruction method supported by video movies and Role Play instruction method were compared in order to find the most effective method for teaching Science-Technology-Society- Environment skills in the Matter and Change Strand for 6th grade students. This study is implemented on two different classes of 6th grade students in, a 2004 Science and Technology program applied, Çankaya Turhan Fevzioğlu Primary School. In one of these classes, subjects relevant to the skills for STSE in the Mater and Change Strand were given with video supported 5E instruction method, while in the other class Role Play instruction method was used by the researcher himself. Quasi-experimental pre-test/post-test control group design was applied in this study. Before the research application STSE skill test and Attitude test were given as a pretest and after the application same tests were applied as a post-test. Data achieved from the mentioned tests were evaluated using ANCOVA method in SPSS computer program. As a result of Data evolution, it was discovered that there was significant difference in the level of learning Science-Technology-Society-Environment skills between students who instructed by 5E instruction method and Role Play instruction method but there was no significant difference in the level of attitude to Science and Technology between students who instructed by 5E instruction method and Role Play instruction method.
