Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to examine the attitudes and awareness levels of secondary school 6th grade students towards environmental problems in terms of mother's education level, father's education level and gender variables. For this purpose, an attitude and awareness scale about environmental problems was applied to 247 6th grade students studying at three public schools in Sivas and answers were received from the students within these scales. Convenience sampling method was used in the formation of the study group of the research. The research was designed in the screening model, which is one of the quantitative research methods. Research data were collected with the environmental awareness scale (36 items) developed by Çatalkaya (2019) and the attitude scale towards the environment (32 items) developed by Yaşaroğlu and Akdağ (2013). In the analysis phase of the collected numerical data, descriptive statistics, independent groups t-test and one-way analysis of variance-ANOVA techniques were used and the significance level was accepted as .05. Based on the findings, it was determined that the students' attitudes towards environmental problems and their awareness levels about environmental problems were at a sufficient level. In addition, it was observed that there was no difference in attitudes towards environmental problems in terms of gender and parental education status. On the other hand, it was concluded that the awareness levels of the students towards environmental problems did not differ on the basis of gender and parental education status. 2022, 65 Pages Keywords: Attitude, Awareness, Environment, Environmental problems
