Abstract (EN)

-82- 9. SUMMARY The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between AAHPERD (American Alliance For Health, Physical Education, Recreation And Dance) physical fitness test battery and the socio-economic level in children at 8, 9 and 10 years old. The number of the participants in the study was 566 students; 295 students (97 eight years, 101 nine years, and 97 ten years) from state schools of The Ministry of National Education and 271 students (93 eight years, 89 nine years, and 89 ten years) from private schools. In the identification of socio-economic level of the participants in the study, the number of the children in the family, the living environment, whether the children have their own rooms in at home, and the level of income of the family, which are socio-economic criteria, were taken into consideration. The socioeconomic difference between students from private and state schools was also considered. The order of testing and measurement was as follows: the measurement of weight, the measurement of height, sit-and-reach test, skin fold measurement, sit-up test, pull-up test and 1 mile run-and-walk test. At the statistical analyses of the data One- Way ANOVA/Tukey test was used to calculate the difference among the height, body weight and the AAHPERD components in the children from private and public schools and the difference among the height, body weight and the components of AAHPERD relative to socio-economic level and age; for the evaluation of the-83- relationship among the height, body weight and the AAHPERD tests and socio-economic level of the participants, Correlation Analyses (Pearson) tests were used. As a result, it has been found out that socio-economic level of the student had an impact on the height, body weight and the AAHPERD components; that there was an increase in the height, body weight, skinfold totals and the strength for sit-up in 8, 9 and 10-year-olds with increasing socio economic level; and that there may be a decrease in flexibility, strength for pull-up and aerobic endurance. Key Words: Physical Fitness, Socio-Economic Level, AAHPERD.
