A Comparison Of West Originatedwords Used İn The Essay And Textbooks Of The Eight Grade Primary Schools Students / İzmir

This research has been conductud in the primary scholls in İzmir City Center. İn this research, İt is aimed to disclose the effects of the 6th and 7th grade lesson books (text books) on the acquisition of the westwern origened words Which are encounted in the 8th grade students? exam papers. The effects of the factors, such as socio-economic levels. (wether the students have a computer or not, social possibilities, the neighborhood they live in) gender(sex), the occupations of their parents, the average income per family and the numbers of brothers and sisters on the usage of western origined words are also examined in the research.The sample group of the research is formed by the 168 students of three different socio-economic levels, 56 students for each level from İzmir citycenter, Kadifekale Primary School(lover level), Yapıcıoğlu primary School ( middle level), Güzelyalı Mehmet Akif Ersoy Primary School ( upper level ).The boy and girl numbers are equal to each other and the same conditions on composition writing are applied.The same three topics determined by the researcher, (A place the students visited, A film they watched an event they experienced.) were given to the sammple group students an done lesson ( 40 minutes ) was given as an allowance to all students. Students were got the write the compositions in one lesson time under the control of the researcher. Every word got by the data collected was liste done by one.Later, their roots were defined, westernlyorigined ones were selecte and they were grouped according to the languages they belong to. The same procedure was applied to the text boks used in the 6th and 7th Grade boks and the proportion of the western origin words to all the words used in the text.After all these processes, the dispersion of the usage of western oripened words according to the sex and socio-cultural levels,and finally the proportions of origined words used in compositions and in the text boks were compared.İt is find out that western origined words contstitude 3,1% of all the words students use in their compositions and 1,4 % of all the words in lesson (text) boks.As a result; the external factors are more effective in acquisition of new words.Key Words : Primary School, lesson book, text book, word origin.
