A typographical analysis of the award-winning book covers of ABCD 2014-2021

Even if each letter that makes up the text is Chinese, Latin, Arabic, Braille, they all have one common purpose. To convey the text in an intelligible way to future generations while preserving the collective culture. The typographic community that composes these texts can be a story for the child, a guide for the user, a manuscript for the historian, or sacred texts for a conservative. A reader should have the function of making itself read in the most urgent situations. On a crashing plane, the correct typography in the designed emergency manual has a lifesaving quality. In books, on the other hand, there is a need for a preliminary presentation that will express the essence of the precious texts that make up the content, a main visual that will convey the message to the reader in an understandable way, and a cover design. This research has been prepared to examine the typographic development process of the book covers awarded by The Academy of British Cover Design in terms of graphic design principles. History of book, paper, close and typography, development of printing press and book; topics such as design elements, print finishing, typography types will be discussed. This study will examine the effect, rules, and typography used in cover designs of foreign origin for publishing houses, design agencies, and independent designers with examples. It aims to show suggestions that will enable to design of modern book covers with high readability. As a result, it has been observed that cover designs made using correct and effective typography are deemed worthy of more awards and are more successful in terms of interaction.
