-The Arabs were the first to establish the principles of rhyme, adorning their poetry with the art of rhyme alongside prosodic meters (ʿarūḍ) from the pre-Islamic era to the present day. Linguists such as Khalil b. Ahmad and Akhfash al-Awsat examined the topic of rhyme independently under the title "ʿIlm al-Qawāfī" (The Science of Rhymes), formulating its rules and principles. Rhyme became synonymous with the concept of "Buḥūr al-Shiʿriyya" (the seas of poetry) and appeared in poetic couplets as phonetic or melodic harmony, aiming to create a proportional relationship between the final words of poetic lines in terms of sound and melody. This study explores the methodology of ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Zanjānī regarding the science of rhyme in his work "Miʿyār al-Nuẓẓār fī ʿUlūm al-Ashʿār" (The Standard of Contemplation in the Sciences of Poetry), with the author also being known for his renowned work on morphology, "al-ʿIzzī fī al-Taṣrīf" Using a descriptive and qualitative approach, the research aims to answer the question: What is al-Zanjānī's approach to the science of rhyme as reflected in his aforementioned work? The study concludes that, although poetry is not strictly bound by rhyme, rhyme—along with poetic meter and musical rhythms—is one of the foundational sciences in Arabic poetry. This research aims to contribute to the analysis of Arabic poetry and to help aspiring poets enhance their poetic skills and knowledge of rhyme through accurate understanding.
