Abstract (EN)
Diabetic nephropathy is a kidney disease that progresses to damage the capillaries in the glomeruli of the kidneys. The most important cause of this disease is long-lasting diabetes and it is seen as the main cause of dialysis in many developed countries. Some studies in the literature show that there is a relationship between diabetic nephropathy and polymorphism. Therefore, the aim of this thesis study is to investigate genetic associations of diabetic nephropathy, especially one of these genetic variants, namely the association between ACACB rs2268388 polymorphism and diabetic nephropathy for the Turkish population. For this purpose; blood samples were collected from 31 diabetic nephropathy patients, 31 diabetic patients and control group of 30 people, and in addition to genetic analyzes; some biochemical parameters such as the levels of HbA1c, serum creatinine, triglyceride, total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, BUN, urine albumin, urine creatinine and protein in 24 hour urine as well as eGFR and UACR and some personal informations such as age, gender, weight, height, body mass index, family history of Type II diabetes, family history of end-stage renal disease, Type II diabetes diagnosis age, duration of Type II diabetes, the incidences of diabetic retinopathy, diabetic neuropathy and cerebrovascular accidentge have also been analyzed. As a result of the analyzes made, it was concluded that there is not a very high correlation between diabetic nephropathy and ACACB gene rs2268388 polymorphism for Turkish population as compared to other studies done. However, it was observed that urine creatinine level and gender were affected 24 hour urine protein level dependent to ACACB rs2268388 polymorphism; in addition, ACACB rs2268388 polymorphism was independently associated with SBP value.
