Impact of emergency department and intensive care nurses' working environments on patient safety attitude

Abstract (EN)
Introduction: A healthy working environment is an important element in ensuring patient safety. Providing more efficient working environments in the workplace of nurses is of great importance in terms of patient safety and nurses. How the working environment is perceived by nurses and its effect on patient safety attitude are important for nursing care processes and patient outcomes. Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the effect of the working environments of emergency and intensive care unit nurses on patient safety attitude. Method: The sample of the study, which is a descriptive cross-sectional type, consisted of 71 nurses working in the Erol Olçok Training and Research Hospital Emergency Service and Intensive Care Services in Çorum and agreeing to participate in the study. The data were obtained by using the "Nurse Introduction Form", "Work Environment Scale" and "Patient Safety Attitude Scale" for nurses. SPSS-20 package program was used to evaluate the data. Number, percentage, mean, independent groups t test, Mann-Whitney U-test, Anova, Kruskal Wallis and Spearman Correlation tests were used in the analysis of the data, and if p <0.05, the results were considered significant. Results: While the mean age of the nurses was 31.89±7.13, 52.1% were female, 47.9% were male, 54.9% chose their profession voluntarily, 60.6% were satisfied with the clinic they worked, 53%, 5 of them are on duty 9 or more per month. The total mean score of the participants on the Work Environment Scale was 86.69±13.01 and the mean score on the Patient Safety Attitude Scale was 145.55±21.71. Between gender and job satisfaction, between age and defining stress, between marital status and working conditions, between job satisfaction and patient safety attitude, between job satisfaction and job satisfaction, teamwork and patient safety attitude. Statistically significant relationships were found between them (p <0.05). A statistically significant positive correlation was found between the Work Environment Scale and the Patient Safety Attitude Scale (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The findings of the study showed that the mean scores of the nurses from the Working Environment Scale and the Patient Safety Attitude Scale total and sub-dimensions were moderate, and that the working environment had a positive effect on their patient safety attitudes.
