Abstract (EN)
This study has been carried out descriptively with the purpose to specify the emotions and concerns developed against the death incident of health personnel providing emergency medical services in Province of Düzce. Sampling of research has been formed by 141 health personnel working in emergency medical services providing institutions found within the borders of the Province of Düzce. Research data has been collected by applying ?Introduction Form? developed by taking advantage of the literature, ?Anxiety against Death Scale (AADS)? developed by Templer (1970) and ?Death Related Depression Scale (DRDS)? developed by Templer and friends (1990). T tests, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Kruskal?Wallis variance analysis, Mann-Whitney U test and correlation coefficient have been used in the statistical analysis of information. Findings obtained at the end of research: it has been seen that 55.3% of the emergency medical personnel that participated in the research was women, 45.4% was in the age group of 26-30, 53.2% was single and majority (48.2%) were graduates of Vocational High School of Medicine. It has been determined that 52.1% of emergency medical personnel often faced the death incident, 43.4% felt sorrow upon encountering death for the first time, 37.3% react normal to death and 28.6% on the other hand experienced feelings of inadequacy in coping with death. Death anxiety in emergency medical personnel is low and death related depression is at a medium level; death anxiety and death related depression scores of women are higher in comparison to men. It has also been determined that death related depression scores of personnel using the coping methods of trying to forget by concentrating on other matters, crying, sharing with friends and/or family are higher and depression scores of personnel doing nothing and using nothing as coping strategy on the hand are lower. At the end of the study it has been found that there is an advanced level of significant relation in positive direction between death anxiety and death related depression and a medium level of significant relation in positive direction between emergency medical services working period and death related depression. Suggestions have been made in line of the findings obtained from the research.Key Words: Emergency Medical Services, Death, Death Anxiety, Death Related Depression.
