Abstract (EN)
Pneumonia is defined as the inflammatory process resulting from the invasion and proliferation of microorganisms in the lungs. It is prominently observed as a disease commonly encountered in intensive care units. Mortality rates can be high among patients monitored in intensive care units due to pneumonia. Hospital records of patients admitted to the Adult Emergency Service Intensive Care Unit of Dicle University Faculty of Medicine between 01.01.2020 and 31.06.2022 were examined. Patients with at least 1 day of follow-up and aged between 1-111 years who were admitted to the intensive care unit were included. A total of 120 patients diagnosed with community-acquired and ventilator-associated pneumonia were retrospectively reviewed in our intensive care unit. Comorbidities of patients diagnosed with pneumonia, organ failure status, mechanical ventilation support, presence of bacteremia, hypoxemia, shock status, COPD or immunodeficiency status, presence of multilobar infiltrates, bacteremia, septic shock, systolic blood pressure, sepsis status, and their effects on mortality were examined. Among the comorbid conditions of the patients, COPD was present in 43 (35%), heart failure in 55 (45%), cirrhosis in 11 (9%), chronic kidney failure in 28 (23%), and immunosuppression in 17 (14%). The mean age of the patients included in the study was 70±17. Of the patients included in the study, 63 (52%) were male and 57 (48%) were female.
