Assesment of preconceptional care of primary care physicians and pregnants in Adana City Center

Purpose: Revealing the awareness and given significance of primary care working on the field in preconceptional care while determining the awareness of pregnant in this particular. Materials and Metods: The sample of the study constituted of 48 primary care physicians serving in Adana city centre, followed by 250 pregnant patients. Data are collected through a survey that consist of 22 questions formed by us that are generated for investigating the general attitude, behaviour and awareness of every physician and a second survey consisting of 19 questions, generated for investigating specific applications performed to all pregnant, and another survey that was performed with pregnant patients face to face. Findings: 250 pregnant patients 48 physicians participated in this research. The mean of the participating pregnant patients was 27.8±5.6 years. When stratifying by age, % 2,8 was 18 years of age or younger, % 12,8 was 35 of age and in the hazardous group. % 89,2 of the pregnancies were planned. On the pregnant patients who stated that they received consultancy from a primary care physician, % 29,5 from a gynecologist, % 18,5 from midwife, % 9 from a nurse and % 7,6 from another healthcare Professional. % 60,4 of the physicians stated that they asked patients in reproductive period if they were planning a pregnancy, all of them stated that they consulted patints who indicated to plan a pregnancy. Result: Although physicians serving on the field were performing prepregnancy care, no standart application exists in this particular. Also, the awareness of pregnant patients about preconceptional care has been found low. It is suggested to create a standart outline about prepregnancy care and to put it into practice.
