Family assesment of children subject to probation in Adana

Abstract (EN)

The aims of this study to examine the demographic and family characteristics of children on probation. The study sample includes 60 children aged 14-18 years who are on Adana Probation Service. For this sample, a researchers developed demographic data form was used to obtain characteristics of the sample. In addition, The Family Assessment Device (FAD) has been applied. The mean age of participants was 16.80 years. The statistical analyses was done with SPSS Windows Packet Programme. Non-parametric Mann Whitney U test, crosstabs and chi square test were carried out to analyse the data. The level of significance was selected as p<0.05. As a result of this study, scores of problem solving and general functioning subscales indicated healthy functioning affairs. Besides, scores of roles, communication, affective responsiveness, affective involvement and behavior control subscales indicated unhealthy family functioning. To our knowledge, this is the first report to descript individual and familial characteristics of children on probation in Adana. It will shed light upon preventive services and the scientific researches which will be held later on.
