Determination of factors affecting the preferences of production and seed selection of oil sunflower producers in Adana

Adana has 9.3% of Turkey's oil sunflower cultivation area. It meets 10.3% of the total oil sunflower production in Turkey. Since Adana is one of the important oilseed sunflower production centers for Turkey, this study was carried out in Adana in order to reveal the factors affecting the oilseed sunflower production preferences of oilseed sunflower producers and to reveal the criteria according to which the producers make their seed choices. Within the framework of this purpose, this study was carried out by evaluating the data collected through 70 face-to-face questionnaires in 8 different villages of Ceyhan and Sarıçam districts where oil sunflower is intensively cultivated in Adana. According to the findings obtained as a result of the research, it has been found very important that the oil sunflower is suitable for mechanization, easy to sell, easy to produce compared to other products, suitable for crop rotation, being an alternative product that can be grown in dry, not requiring much labor and being economical. It has been determined that the producers consider yield performance, earliness, easy finding of seeds, drought resistance and head shape very important in the selection of oil sunflower.
