Abstract (EN)
While natural disasters cause many casualties they also create structural damages on buildings and living spaces where people spend most of their times. The structural damages occurring after disasters play an important role to interfere housing, health, education and infrastructure facilities. It is crucial to construct the facilities which will satisfy the immediate needs of the victims of misfortune during the emergency relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction processes of the post disaster management in a very short period of time in order to overcome with harsh disaster conditions. Shelters, disaster management centers, health, sanitation and first aid facilities, storages, kitchen and dining service centers and temporary educational buildings can be listed as required facilities during the relief process. The purpose of temporary buildings during the rehabilitation process which begins after emergency relief process is to satisfy psychological, sociological and physiological needs of community until the permanent structures will be built. During the temporary construction process buildings supplying the requirements such as housing, health, nutrition, clothing, administrative, education and other social service facilities are needed. Education is one of the most important requirements which is crucial to consider during temporary construction process. Teaching and educational activities are needed to be sustained in order to overcome the adverse traumatic effects of disasters on the students. It is essential to built the temporary educational facilities as quickly as possible in order to provide continuing education which were existed as before disaster. This continuation implies on the student that life goes on regardless of the conditions and plays a significant role on adjusting to the new conditions they are in.Sustainability, which holds an important place on the agenda in recent years due to the increasing environmental problems and consumption of natural resoruces, is based on maintaining any system without any interruption and damaging the core resources which are vital for the system. The post disaster temporary educational buildings are used for a long term. Therefore these temporary buildings affect the users? health negatively, and can?t satisfy users? needs and also they are preventing the further funding efforts which can be used for refurbishment them in any other disaster areas. Furthermore inconvenient site selection, using improper building materials, structural system and application methods, unconscious post usage procedures have negative effects on the natural resources, country?s economy and environmental ecology. The notion of sustainability related to construct post disaster temporary educational units aims that the disaster victim students to return their education as soon as possible in a structure that is built without damaging the environment by protecting natural resources. For this reason, the notion of sustainability should be considered in the whole life cycle process such as site selection, designing, production, construction, usage and post usage processes of post disaster educational buildings. In this study, it is mentioned that temporary educational buildings, that are constructed considering sustainability criteria during emergency relief and temporary construction stages of disaster relief process, provide not only uninterrupted education in suitable buildings but also help economy of the country and protection of natural resources.
