History of Turkish education in Afganistan

ABSTRACT HISTORY OF TURKISH EDUCATION IN AFGHANISTAN Hayri, Aysultan Turkish Langage Teaching Programme Advisor : Assistant Professor Erol BARIN April - 2007 Although language occurs thanks to some organs revealing all of the sounds which are composed by a number of systems, it is, spiritually, the most important means of communication among people. Language has a very crucial importance in forming a nation?s cultural identity inasmuch as it carries all the cultural, social and political activities done by people and especially in that it carries the languages of different societies from generation to generation in spoken or written forms by using literary means. One of the most important elements forming the present communities is the language spoken by them. As well as being a society?s national identity, it is also the most essential means in international commerce and cultural exchange. This study has been carried out in Afghanistan under the title ? The history of Turkish Language Education in Afghanistan? In this study, not only has Afghanistan?s political, social and cultural situation been briefly explained but also some remarks have been made about its ethnic and demographic structure. The main concern of this study is the Turkish Language education in Afghanistan. In accordance with this, its history has been examined under different periods. Research on the formation, sustainability, rise and other issues of the institutions related to Turkish language has been carried out and the contribution of Turkish government and businessmen to the establishment of modern education in Afghanistan has been discussed based on documents. Since a study has been carried out regarding Turkish Language education in Afghanistan, some research based on documents about the cultural life and social situation local, Turkish originated people such as Uzbeks, Turkomans, has been done According to this study, it can be concluded that Turkish language education is very important in Afghanistan?s general education. Therefore, the part of the study regarding this, has been tried to mention under the title ?The past and present of Turkish Language Education in Afghanistan?
