Misconceptions on heat and temperature subjects at 9th grade students in Afyonkarahisar downtown area

This thesis study aimed at determining how well ?heat and temperature? subject is understood by 9th class students and which misconceptions developed about this subject and alternative concepts which students replace with original ones.This study was done in the center city of Afyonkarahisar province. Survey was conducted in 9 high schools in the 2006-2007 spring semester. 560 students attended the survey. There are 25 questions related with heat and temperature in the survey to determine misconceptions and alternative concepts after their physic education.Survey was conducted meticulously and required explanations were announced. Moreover additional 8 questions except survey ones were asked to determine whether other factors play role in developing concepts in students? mind or not.To evaluate survey SPSS statistic program was used. In the result part of the survey, an evaluation was done about answers.It might be told that students have misconceptions in serious ratio and this affects understand level of students. In order to increase success, first misconceptions should be corrected. Student having wrong concepts will acquire correct information very hard.
