Establishing priority sport branches, investigating the reasons that affect the choice of these branches and evaluating the wide spreading of mass sport in Afyonkarahisar district

The aim of this study is establishing priority sport branches, investigating the reasons that affect the choice of these branches and evaluating the wide spreading of mass sport in Afyonkarahisar district. The study universe is formed by physical education teachers, district youth and sport directorate employees, sport press, sport trainers, referees, district representatives, sport club directors, members of ASKF, members of TÜFAD and members of TFFHGD that work in Afyonkarahisar district between 2005 and 2006. In the study the ideas and thoughts of the people were determined by a questionnaire. In the first section of questionnaire which has two sections; in 13 questions, personal information and social-economical features, in the second sections in 40 questions, the thoughts of sport potentials in the district and totally 53 questions were asked. In the second section thoughts of the subjects about the reasons those affect the reasons of choosing the privileged sport branches in Afyonkarahisar district, collimation of people to sport and development of sport branches in 9 questions, participation to sport facilities in 9 questions, factors that affect to hinder to play sports in 10 questions were asked. The data gathered by applying the questionnaire method were arranged in MS Excel for the statistical operation. The appropriateness and reliability test was applied in SPSS statistical programmer. Cross-tabulation and chi-square tests were applied in SPSS as statistical tests. The results of the test show that the factor which affect the people who live in Afyonkarahisar district to choose the privileged sport branches are; corresponding the surroundings and climate, to begin affective of economical reasons, cultural structure, familial reasons, media, to be a watchable sport branch, operations and manner of sport directors and sport specialists in the region, success that won in region in that branches, the number and sufficiency of sport plants, impossibilities of education that formed for sport branches, sport politics of the country and region and tangible possibilities that supplied by the sport branches. And also results show that; the things that have to be done for collimation people to sport and improvement of sport branches are; diversifying and increasing the number of sport plants, supporting economically and increasing the number of sport clubs, to supplying the people?s sport plants usage productively, to supply physical and spiritual support to talented sportsmen, to prop up and encourage the schools to study with clubs in coordination, to increase the number of sport specialist, private and official associations have to supply the possibility to make sport to arrange sport organizations that people interest in, in the national and regional media, have to prepare programs that encourage people to participate sport. The factors those obtain guiding people to sport and sport facilities are; choosing sport as a profession, families guidings, friendships? effects, physical education teachers? effects, trainers? effects, schools importance that they give to sport, the approaches of sport directors to sport, interests of person to sport and the program on media. Although the interests, the factors that hinder to play sport are to; having no spare time, physical troubles, environment and climate conditions, familial reasons, tradition and customs of the region, economic impossibilities, absence of tools and equipment for the desired branches, insufficient facilities for the desired branches, insufficient sport of regional associations, to sport and absence of suitable educators and trainers for the desired branches. We pointed the some ways for solving these problems and some disappearing ways in the last part of our investigation.
