Abstract (EN)

This thesis, which examines Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar from the perspective of Urban Sociology, investigates how space and the city have a place in Tanpınar's works. Many disciplines were used in this investigation. In this sense, the thesis is an interdisciplinary study. City and space are two concepts with specific contents that determine thought, language, culture and lifestyle. Space is social, determined by society, and shapes society. The city, which is called the place where civilization takes place, has a structure that determines and shapes the daily life of the individual and society. The study of the place and the city was not handled by Tanpınar in terms of urban planning or urbanologist. As a writer and poet, Tanpınar handled the place and the city poetically. Poetics is about reproducing the space of imagination, contemplation, and imagination through literary language. This study was guided by Gaston Bachealard's The Poetics of Space, which shows the phenomenology of the poetic treatment of space. The ontological, social and poetic dimension of living in a place has been tried to be shown through Tanpınar texts. Content analysis and critical intimacy were adopted as a method. The aim of the thesis is to show poetically what it means to live in the city in modern times, when the space that people experience ontologically is eliminated, its traces are erased and new experiences are entered. In summary, in the thesis, the sociality and relationality of space in Tanpınar's works in an interdisciplinary context; The effect of the city on daily life and civilization is shown.
