Abstract (EN)
The aim of this research is to explore depression levels, loss of competence and possibility of the suicidal attempts of individuals diagnosed with familial Mediterranean fever with respect to socio-demographic variables. For this purpose, randomly chosen 251 individuals diagnosed with familial Mediterranean fever living within the borders of Turkey has been participated in this research. In order to collect data "Possibility of Suicide Scale", a "Short Loss of Competence Survey", "Beck Depression Scale" and a "Socio-demographic Data Form" were handed out to the participants. SPSS 20.0 packaged software was used for the analysis of data. With regard to the results, depression tendency increased as the number of seizures of the patients increased. Furthermore, a significant relationship was found between the frequency of seizures and loss of competence. Patients who had more seizures were faced with a greater loss of competence. It was revealed in the research that the possibility of suicidal attempts among people in the age group of 18-24 was found to be greater when compared with the other age ranges. Moreover, a significant relationship between income levels, depression, and loss of competence had been found. These findings suggest that depression levels and loss of competence decrease as the income levels increase. By means of education levels and loss of competence, it was observed that the loss of competence had become less as the education levels got higher. A positive correlation was found between the depression levels and loss of competence and the possibility of the suicidal attempts. The loss of competence and suicidal attempts increased as the depression levels of individuals suffering from Familial Mediterranean Fever got more severe. These results were discussed in the light of recent literature.
