Aizanoi theatre conservation-repair suggestions

Aizanoi Ancient City located in Çavdarhisar district of Kütahya is a Phrygian city. The largest building complex of the city, the Theater-Stadion structure, exhibits a unique feature with the structural and functional use of the stage building facades together. This study, which includes the conservation-repair proposals for Aizanoi Theater, aims to determine the problems encountered in the theater structure and to offer solutions for these problems. This study aims to create the content of the interventions to be made in the complex in the light of the scientific data obtained before a comprehensive conservation-repair project to be carried out in the Theater-Stadion complex of Aizanoi ancient city. In the examinations carried out in the Theater, it is understood that in addition to the problems arising from structural and environmental factors, there were deteriorations in the stone and masonry as a result of different period additions and ancient period repairs. In the structural applications carried out in the ancient period, it is seen that interventions aimed at restoring the old form or re-using rather than solving the problems were carried out. It is seen that the structural deteriorations, which largely occurred as a result of earthquakes, caused serious damage and disrupted the integrity of the structure. This situation necessitates suggestions based on active intervention such as reinforcement and consolidation in the works planned to be carried out within the scope of protection and repair. It is seen with the findings that the stone deteriorations observed in the structure are climatic conditions, air pollution, insufficient protection awareness and faulty repairs. In the examinations and researches carried out to determine the deterioration factors, the evaluation of the deteriorations occurring on the stone with climatic parameters and material analyses supports the findings obtained. As a result of the findings obtained, it is revealed that the deteriorations occurring in the structure should be subject to protection and repair interventions in the light of modern and accepted principles, the factors causing the deterioration should be eliminated or minimized, protection and repair awareness should be increased and maintenance and control solutions should be provided in the structures.
