Abstract (EN)
There have been fundamental changes in economic and social structure in Turkey especially in 1950s with the process of industrialization and urbanization which began to gain moment. Family, the smallest and maybe the most important part of the society, has been one of the institutions affected deeply by these changes. When industrialization radically changes economy, mode of production and relations of production, the process of urbanization makes the transition from typical traditional-large family structure to the modern-nuclear one late, difficult, painful and traumatic. Both the inevitable changes in the function and pattern of the family affect family members deeply, and this situation reflects on social relationships, work and family life and the institution of family. In this thesis which intends to determine the correlation of academicians' adjustment in their marriage with their burn-out (syndrome) in the workplace, the aim is to examine the subject with its social, economic and cultural aspects. The correlations between two variants of this study which are academic study and marital adjustment and whether and to what extent they correlate with, complete and wear one another will be explained with the help of the survey conducted among an exemplary group and field data gained by the remarks during the interviews. In four universities of Turkey, Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), Marital Adjustment Test (MAT) and the survey containing open ended questions and prepared only for this study were used in this research with face to face interviews. This study conducted in Hacettepe and Başkent Universities (Ankara), Adıyaman University (Adıyaman) and Ahi Evran University (Kırşehir) in seven months starting from November, 2014. Till today in Turkey, although anthropological and sociological researches have been carried out on relationship between education level and marital relation, sexuality and childbearing, these have not been enough to analyze and understand the society well. Because marriage of academicians, who are freer and more independent when compared to other jobs in public sphere but also more independent from the society, was described and evaluated in terms of marriage-work life, this thesis study will contribute to and present perspective to academicians, the society and the people who will study in this field.
