Abstract (EN)
VIII. NG L ZCE ÖZETPresence of some viruses in the etiology of lung cancer has been described. In our study, it is aimed to investigate the prevelance of hMPV in bronchial lavageand serum of patients with lung cancer and the relation of hMPV with lung cancer.70 patients with lung cancer and 30 healthy subjects as a control group wereincluded in the study. 5 cc peripheral blood sample was obtained from all subjectsand was kept at -80 ºC. 5 cc bronchial lavage from patients who underwentbronchoscopy for the diagnosis of lung cancer was obtained and kept at -80 ºC.Specimens obtained from all subjects were investigated for presence of hMPV withPCR method. The mean age of 65 (93 %) male and 5 (7 %) female cases was 61.44 ± 9.65(44-81) years in lung cancer patients. In control group the mean age of 20 (67 %)male and 10 (33 %) female cases was 51,00 (40-55) years. There were 54 (77 %)nonsmall cell lung carcinoma and 16 (23 %) small cell lung carcinoma. In patientswith small cell lung carcinoma, there were 9 (54 %) patient with limited disease.Histopathologic diagnosis of patients with nonsmall cell lung carcinoma were 22 (41%) squamous cell carcinoma, 14 (26 %) adenocarcinoma, 2 (4 %) others (1neuroendocrine tumour, 1 large cell carcinoma). In 16 (29 %) patients, type of cancerwere not identified. Stage of patients with nonsmall cell carcinoma was 2 (4 %) StageI, 1 (1 %) Stage II, 2 (4 %) Stage IIIA, 27 (50 %) Stage IIIB, and 16 (30 %) Stage IV.In 6 patients, staging was not done due to the lack of follow up.hMPV was not found in bronchial lavage and serum in patients with lungcancer and serum in control subjets with PCR method. Any relation with lung cancerand hMPV was not shown in our study. It was thought that there may be risk for the presence of virus due to the oldage of patients, immune deficiency and smoking, but relationship between hMPV andlung cancer was not observed. This may be the result of small number of subjects, asympomatic patients, and methodological problems. For this reason, studies donewith large series are needed.
