Abstract (EN)
Aim: In this study, it is aimed to research the rate of depression and the predisposing factors of depression in individuals over the age of 18 who applied to the Family Medicine Outpatient Clinic of Akdeniz University Hospital. Material and Method: 408 individuals participated in this study. 17 questions and PHQ-9 depression screening survey evaluating sociodemographic characteristics and health information of patients prepared by researchers was applied to participants by face-to-face interview technique. In addition to the participants in pregnant or in postpartum period, Edinburg Postpartum Depression Scale was applied by face-to-face interview technique. Statistical analyzes are performed by SPSS 22.0 Programme. Descriptive statistics were given as numbers and percentages, and it was determined that the dependent variables examined with the Kolmogorov Smirnov normality test are not normally distributed. Mann Whitney U test was used to compare the means of two groups. The Kruskal-Wallis test was used to compare the means of more than two groups, and the Mann Whitney U test was used to determine the differences between these groups. Benforrini correction was applied to the results of Mann Whitney U Test. The comparison of frequencies was determined by Chi-Square analysis and Fisher's Exact test. The result was evaluated within %95 confidence interval, and the significance level was accepted as p<0,05. Findings: 69,1% of the participants are women. 96,5% of the participants are graduated from college or university. 72,2% of them are married. 92,6% of them have a job. The average monthly income of 90,2% of them is over 3000 TL. 73,3% of them live in the city center. 76,9% of them live with their nuclear family. 93,1% of them have insurance from Social Security Institution. 83,8% of them do not have any chronic illnesses. 70,6% of them smoke cigarettes. 58,8% of them drink alcohol. 33,8% of them have never exercised before. 12,4% of women participants are pregnant. 62,3% of 53 women in pregnant or postpartum period are placed in the group with high depression risk. Result: The number of patients diagnosed with depression is gradually arising. Enlightening predisposing factors such as being a woman, living in a large family or alone, smoking and sedentary life has a great importance to improve the diagnosis and treatment process of depression. Primary care physicians have an important responsibility for the early diagnosis of the disease. Specially, the psychiatric evaluation and follow-up of women in pregnant and postpartum period should not be forgotten.
