Abstract (EN)
The objective of this research is to determine the place of cornelian (onyx) stone in the Turkish jewelry art; to put it into open with all of its characteristics and fields of use made to date and to examine its use in current piece of pinned jewelry and accessories, with a view to document the subject.The universe of the research, is formed by the pieces of pinned jewelry and accessories which are designed and manufactured, in job shops of jewelry stores, operating in Ankara.Questionnaires are prepared for 70 each pieces of pinned jewelry and accessories which were selected from the universe and the characteristic of the pieces of pinned jewelry and accessories which were sampled are documented with their photographs. A catalog is formed for the research.Within the scope of research, the history of Ankara, are studied and introduced. Furthermore, the jewelry art, is looked into and detailed information about the Turkish jewelry art, is given. Information about pieces of pinned jewelry, history of pieces of pinned jewelry, factors influencing to the pieces of pinned jewelry, means and tools used in making pieces of pinned jewelry are provided to enrich the subject.By supporting information, about stones used in making pieces of pinned jewelry and accessories, with photographs, they are presented. The formation, processing, varieties and colors, characteristics and areas of use of the cornelian (onyx) stone which forms the main topic of this research, are determined, with there different aspects, with the study made in detail. Lastly, information about the place and use of cornelian (onyx) stone, in Turkish jewelry is provided and the current use of cornelian (onyx) stone, in pieces of pinned jewelry and accessories, is documented with a catalog.At the end of the research conducted, it is determined that, in majority of cases, the cornelian (onyx) stone in red color, having tens of different color and verities are used in making such accustomed products as rings, bracelets and beats which are generally used by the Turkish people. Furthermore, not only in the pieces of pinned jewelry and beats, they are used in many filed and in different ways. When the pieces of pinned jewelry and accessories made of cornelian (onyx) stone contained in the questionnaire are examined, it can be observed that, they are manufactured by such techniques as engraving, putting in form of strings(telkari) and ?..(güverse), in traditional style of manufacturing. The output is achieved, with different stone cut and designs, in from of pieces of pinned jewelry and accessories.Key words: Cornelian(agate), Jewellery, Desıgn, Jewellery stone.
