Abstract (EN)

Water pollution increases with increasing technology and population. Water pollution is mostly caused by heavy metals and dyes. Adsorption and photocatalytic methods are used to remove dyestuff from water. The photocatalytic method is more preferred because it has advantages such as rapid applicability and low cost. Semiconductors are used for photocatalytic degradation of dyes. In recent scientific studies, supported semiconductor materials are often used. In this study, activated carbon-supported ZnS activated carbon-supported CdS, activated carbon-supported Fe doped ZnS and activated carbon-supported Fe doped CdS catalysts were synthesized for photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue. Characterization of synthesized catalysts was carried out with SEM, EDX, XRD and BET devices. The photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue was carried out in the presence of a UV-C lamp. In the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue experiments, the effect of different parameters such as active carbon/metal ratio, dyestuff initial concentration, catalyst amount and time were investigated. The degradation kinetics of methylene blue was determined for each catalyst. The kinetics of photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue for the whole catalyst was found to be first order.
