The relationship between serum leptin level in acute hemorrage and ischemia stroke

Abstract (EN)

Leptin, in protein structure, regulatory energy intake and consumtion, affecting many systems in the body is a hormone secreted by adipose tissue. Because of its similarity to cytokines, it is considered as of the class 1 cytokine receptor family. Because of its relationship with inflammation, atherosclerosis and hypertension the similarity of leptin to cytokine may be associated with the pathogenesis of stroke.İn this study; the relationship between serum leptin levels and stroke is investigated in patients with ischemic and hemorrahagic stroke in acute stroke. 53 patients with a diagnosis of ischemic, 40 patients with a diagnosis of acute hemorragic stroke and as a control group of age and gender macthed 50 healty subjects are evalueted prospectively. Following the first hour of stroke patients, serum leptin levels are measured by taking blood samples. The serum leptin levels of the patient group with a statistically significant differrence (p<0.05). Leptin levels in patients with diabetes mellitus with hypertension, hiperlipidemia did not differ significantly. Women in the control group serum leptin levels were higher than in men, and this differnce was significant statistically.As a result; our study showed increased serum leptin levels in patients with acute stroke. Elevated serum leptin levels and its impact on atherogenesis and inflammatory response may play an important role in the formation of stroke. New and comprehensive studies are needed on this issue.
