Investigation of obsessive compulsive drinking behavior, coping styles and social support types in individuals using alcohol

Alcohol-related problems become an important health issue in the world and in our country. This study aimed to investigate obsessive-compulsive alcohol consumption, coping strategies and types of social support in alcohol users. The sample of the study consisted of 264 people consuming alcohol. Sociodemographic information form, Alcohol Use Disorders Recognition Test (AUDIT), Obsessive Compulsive Drinking Scale (STS), Coping Styles Scale Short Form (CBSS-SF) used to collect data. As a result of the research; There was a weak to moderate correlation between obsessive-compulsive drinking and social support in the high-risk group of alcohol users. There was a weak, positive relationship between scores of coping style and scores of perceived social support. Obsessive-compulsive drinking behaviors of the participants were higher in the high-risk group. Moreover, there was a positive correlation between coping styles and perceived social support in the risk-free group.
