Abstract (EN)

In this study, the importance of earthquakes in Geography Lesson Teaching Programs in high schools between Germany and Turkey is analyzed. There are comparisons and suggestions with the help of the results in the thesis. In terms of how the earthquakes occur, they are subjects of Physical Geography. In the Gölcük Earthquake in 1999, more than 17,000 people were killed in Turkey, which is in the Alp-Himalayan Mountains Belt. That is why; earthquakes are of important for our country. It is a fact that, high schools are important part of education and prepare students for university; so how they give a place to GLTP is very important.According to comparisons, in Germany (Bayern state), which is a developed country in Europe and away from earthquakes in normal life, in GLTP of high schools, the subject of earthquake covers the Pacific countries? zones. In this zone, which is quite active in terms of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, the curriculum, covers how the earthquakes occur in terms of Physical Geography, tectonics, the affects of earthquakes on the environment and human life, the existence or the absence of possible early-warning systems and precautions to take. The subjects of earthquakes are taught in the Unit of Natural Disasters in the GLTP for several years in Turkey. However; shot descriptions in Physical Geography lesson are taught in different times from this chapter. In this respect, it is a contradiction to the definition of geography because of the fact that ?environment - human relationship? and ?reason-result relationship? is ignored. As a result, under the light of the definition of geography and oriented with the need of our country, some suggestions are purposed for GLTP.
