Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted in a primary state school with the fifth grade students. First of all, the effect of traditional assessment methods was researched and it was seen that the improvement in students? learning process was not sufficient. Later, the effect of multiple intelligences (MI) activities as an alternative assessment for young learners through portfolios was examined in terms of improving students? learning process. According to the aim of the study, first of all the activities were designed, then an alternative assessment of Multiple Intelligences activities through portfolios was used in English classes without disrupting the curriculum. Throughout the present study, the students? attitudes towards the implementation and their participation the classes were observed, questionnaires and students? portfolios were used as data collection tools. In addition, at the end of the study, an interview was done with the students so as to understand whether there was any change in their learning process or not. The findings of the study revealed that the implementation of MI activities as an alternative assessment method through portfolio is an effective assessment tool in improving the learning process for young learners.Key words: Portfolio, multiple intelligences, constructivism, young learners.
