Abstract (EN)

GC/MS analyses indicated that the essential oils of the aerial parts of C. nepeta had the following major compounds (%); pulegone (43,02), and menthone (28,09), and those of T. cilicicum were mainly α-pinene (2,95), limonene (3,17), eucalyptol (5,08), camphor (3,53), linalool (7,01), α-terpineol (3,13), borneol (4,21), spathulanol (2,98), sesquisabinene hydrate (6,88), nerolidol (4,90), α-muurolol (4,57). Essential oil yield was 1% for C. nepeta and 0,4 % for T. cilicicum. In the antimicrobial assay, the essential oils of both species revealed inhibitory activities on test microorganisms when using the disc diffusion assay. Minimal Inhibitory Concentration and Minimal Bactericidal/ Fungicidal Concentration (µl/ml) values of C. nepeta and T. cilicicum' essential oils were as follows; B. subtilis (0,39/0,78;0,39/0,78), B. cereus (1,56/50,0;0,78/1,56), S. aureus BAA (5,20/25,0;5,20/ 6,25), S. aureus 29213 (6,25/6,25;6,25/6,25), E. casseliflavus (5,20/6,25;6,25/12,50), E. faecalis (5,20/12,5;6,25/12,50), E. hormaechei (3,12/6,25;6,25/ 25,00), E. coli (3,12/3,12;6,25/6,25), P. aeruginosa (6,25/12,5;12,5/50,00), K. pneumoniae (6,25/25,0;10,41/50.00), C. albicans (0,19/0,78;1,56/6,25), C. parapsilosis (0,78/0,78;3,12/12,5), respectively. C. nepeta' essential oil completely inhibited the seed germination, radicle and plumule growth of Lactuca sativa at 0,5 mg/ml and on Lepidium sativum and Portulaca oleracea at 1,0 ve 2,0 mg/ml. The oil of T. cilicicum' inhibited the growth of radicle and plumule of L. sativa, L. sativum and P. oleracea at 1,0 ve 2,0 mg/ml.
