Abstract (EN)

The goal of this study was to examine some Anatolian grape species for their biochemical content, anticancer and antioxidant activities. The used eight type of white and red grapes (Vitis vinifera) including Narince, Boğazkere, Viognier, Kalecik karası, Malbec, Savuignon Blanc, Öküzgözü and Syrah were collected in vineyards of a private company in Kırşehir. The collected grapes were protected under appropriate conditions to bring to the lab, where the grape beads were rinsed and underwent extraction in 70:30 ethanol:water solvent system. GC-MS based techniques were utilized to characterize organic molecules found in the extracts. Antioxidant capacity of the samples were evaluated using DPPH radical scavenging assay, where ascorbic acid was used as reference reducing agent. Huh-7 cells were used to determine anticancer activity of the extracts, for which MTT tests were preferred. The anticancer studies revealed that all the extracts suppressed cancerous cell growth, where the suppression degree showed dependence on the grape type. 24-h treatment of the cells with the extracts resulted in 14-30 % suppression while that was between 14 and 40 % for 72-h treatment. The obtained results showed correlation with the phenolic content of the grape species. The species Narince gave the very characteristic biochemical content and the strongest anticancer potentials.
