The family members of ICU patients of anxiety and depression symptoms

Family members of ICU patients should have high levels of distress;symptoms as anxiety, depression, physical illnesses and social isolation, thatpersist throughout their relatives? hospitalization. The prognosis of the patientsand time to stay in ICU affect the severity of the family members? psychologicaldistress.In this study we aimed to evaluate the psychological distress of familymembers of ICU patients and we used Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale.Thirty, first ? degree relatives of ICU patients were included in the study. Clinicaldata, APACHE II and MODS scores were collected from the ICU records.Information about the patients? status were given to their relatives daily and theywere assessed four times; at 0., 3., 7. and 14. days of their patients? ICUadmission.We have determined high level of anxiety and depression symptomsamong the family members of ICU at 7. and 14. days.The main finding of the study is: The family members of ICU patientsfrequently exhibit high levels of anxiety and depression that correlate with thepatients? prognosis in the time of ICU stay.
