Abstract (EN)

The purpose of his study was to adapt Narrative Engagement Scale into Turkish culture. Narrative Engagement Scale aims to measure narrative engagement and it distinguishes among four dimensions of experiential engagement in narratives: attentional focus, emotional engagement, narrative presence and narrative understanding. Within the context of adaptation study, permission obtained from researchers who developed the scale. The scale was translated into Turkish and back translated into English and these translations were evaluated by a committee to finalize the translation process. The equivalence between English form and Turkish form, clarity of Turkish form, construct validity, criterion validity, item-total correlation and internal consistency were observed. To assess criterion validity, adaptation studies of Transportation Scale and Identification Scale which were not adapted into Turkish culture before, also performed. Within the context of adaptation study, permission obtained from researchers who developed the scales. The scales were translated into Turkish and back translated into English and these translations were evaluated by a committee to finalize the translation process. Criterion validity and internal consistency were observed for both scales. Research data conducted by group session in İstanbul Arel University and Karakedi Cultural Center in a sample consist of 152 participants and 22.2 average of age. Validity and reliability studies showed that even though the original form of the scale was consist of 12 items and four dimensions; the version contains 10 items and three dimensions was valid and reliable for Turkish form. It can be said that the Turkish form consisting of 10 items and three dimensions is appropriate for Turkish culture.
