To investigate the relationships between perceived maternal narcissism traits, self-sabotage and sociotropy-autonomy personality traits

The aim of this study is to investigate the relationships between perceived maternal narcissism traits, self-sabotage and sociotropy-autonomy personality traits. For this purpose "Narcissistic Traits Perceived from Mother Scale'', "Self-Handicapping Scale'', "Sociotropy-Autonomy Scale' and "Personan Information Form'' were used. Random sampling method was used in the study. The sample of the study consist of 395 participants (272 female, 123 male) aged between 18-65 living in İstanbul. In the research, the relational screening model, one of the quantitative analysis methods was used. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS 27 program. The data obtained in the study were analyzed using the Statistical Program for Social Sciences (SPSS 27.0) and the PROCESS macro program for SPSS (PROCESS 4.0). Among the statistical analysis methods; normal distribution analysis, Pearson Correlation Analysis to analyze the relationship between variables, Independent Groups T-test and Anova to determine the relationship between demographic variables, and Process 4.0 for mediator role analysis were used. According to the results of the study; there is a significant relationship between the narcissistic characteristics perceived from the mother and self-handicapping behavior and sociotropy-autonomy personality traits. According to another finding obtained from the study, sociotropy-autonomy personality traits have a mediating role in the relationship between the narcissistic characteristics perceived from the mother and self-handicapping behavior. When the mediating role variables were examined, it was observed that the sociotropic personality trait had a higher mediating value. In line with the findings obtained from the study, some suggestions were presented to researchers and practitioners.
