Post-use spatial analysis of buildings converted into boutique hotels in Antalya Side

Accommodation facilities providing temporary housing services to tourists and visitors have evolved and diversified in terms of structural and spatial characteristics up to the present day. This evolution and diversification have been shaped by expectations arising from the increase in the number of tourists. In tourist regions, boutique hotels, located within urban areas, are the preferred type of accommodation due to their adaptability to the dynamics of tourist destinations and their ability to offer personalized services. Consequently, the rise in tourist demand has directly triggered an increase in the number of boutique hotels. This study focuses on the Side region of Antalya, Turkey, which hosts numerous domestic and international tourists. Due to the increasing number of tourist visits to the city, it has been observed that existing apartments and buildings are being converted into boutique hotels. This research aims to document the current state of these converted spaces and evaluate their compliance with regulations. Within this scope, the concepts of tourism, accommodation facilities, and boutique hotels have been thoroughly examined. A comprehensive inventory was prepared based on literature reviews, collected data, and field studies. Using this inventory, selected examples were systematically analyzed and evaluated. In the findings section of the research, the architectural identities, spatial organization schemes, and architectural characteristics of the selected boutique hotel examples were examined and analyzed. Comparative tables summarizing these analyses were subsequently created. This study provided a comprehensive analysis of the architectural characteristics of boutique hotels in the region by focusing on three examples located on different streets and undergoing transformation during similar periods. The findings revealed significant deficiencies in documenting and archiving the transformation processes. In this context, the study highlighted the importance of systematically recording the architectural transformation processes of hotel and accommodation structures in Turkey. It is anticipated that this research will raise awareness of architectural documentation and design standards for future boutique hotel projects in a city like Antalya, where tourism activities are highly prominent.
