Abstract (EN)

In the nineteenth century, when important steps were being taken for feminism in the world, gender relations in Russia had a rigid structure in which women occupied a subordinate position in society. Women's social, political and economic rights were limited, and social norms severely restricted their lives. The emergence of the feminist movement and active struggles for women's rights intensified in later years, especially in the twentieth century. Anton Chekhov, one of the names who tried to break the nineteenth century stereotype of women in literature, presents women as strong heroines who can go beyond the patriarchal system in his works. In this study, the representation of women in the stories in Chekhov's Stories of Women is analyzed.
