The Evaluation of the efficiency of anthralin and UVB combination versus anthralin in the treatment of psoriasis by Psoriasis Area Severity Index

SUMMARY In this study, UVB + anthralin combined therapy was given to a group of 20 patients with psoriasis. 20 patients with psoriasis which anthralin therapy was administered solely, served as controls were selected from the outpatient clinic of Dokuz Eylül University, Department of Dermatology. The comparison of the groups were made by using PASI before treatment and in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th weeks of the treatment. The average PASI scores before treatment and on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th weeks of treatment in which UVB + anthralin combined therapy was administered were 11.1, 5.0, 3.4, 1.7, 1.3 and, in the control group which anthralin therapy was given were 1 1.0, 5.05, 3.7, 1.7, 1.3, respectively. In the 1st and 2nd weeks of treatment, average PASI values of the group in which anthralin + UVB combined therapy was given were lower than the group of which only anthralin therapy was given. The difference was not found to be statistically significant. The irritation of anthralin in the combined treatment regimen was observed to be lower. These findings suggest that in a combined treatment regimen, anthralin can be choosed. 73
