Effects of the laboratory report based on science writing heuristic approach on the science process skills, questioning skills and quality of argumentative writing

Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to analyze the effect of laboratory report based on Science Writing Heuristic (SWH) approach on the scientific process skills, questioning skills and quality of written arguments of prospective science teachers. In addition, pre-service teachers opinions about report based on SWH approach were examined. The study was carried out in the spring semester of the 2018-2019 Academic Year with the second year students of the Faculty of Education Science teaching Program of a public university in the Central Anatolia region. Within the scope of the General Biology Laboratory 2 course, a mixed method research approach was adopted in the study which was conducted over a period of ten weeks. The research was conducted with a quasi-experimental model with a pre-test and past-test control group and qualitative data capturing methods were employed in the implementation process and at the end of the implementation. The participants of this study were comprised of 41 prospective science teachers study at Yozgat Bozok University. The data of the research were collected using Scientific Process Skills Test (SPST), Questioning Skills Scale (QSS), Laboratory reports based on SWH approach and SWH approach opinion survey. Participation of the study the quantitative data obtained from Yozgat Bozok Scientific Process Skill Test and Questioning Skills Scale were analyzed by using independent + test in SPSS 24 program. Experimental reports based on the SWH approach were analyze during ANOVA test by scoring the evaluation rubric developed by Burke and others (2005). The qualitative data obtained from the SWH approach opinion survey were subjected to content analysis. It was found that belabo ratory report based on SWH approachdid not have a statistically significant effect on prospective teachers scientific process skill sand questioning skills, on the other hand, it significantly increased the quality of writtenar guments. However, in the study it was determined that laboratory report based on SWH approach contributed to the prospective science teachers research skills and permanent learning. As a result of the study, it was concluded that the components of the SWH approach are the most useful and the most challenging components in the implementation process. In the light of there sults of the study, suggestions were presented.
