Abstract (EN)
This thesis is in line with the current estimated shortage of housing of approximately 28 million units that will grow with population growth and rapid urbanization and with a lack of proper housing provision in Nigeria. The attention to affordable housing is because it caters to low-income earners who make up a significant portion of the population. The study takes into consideration the significance of housing to both individuals and to the state and the state of affordable housing in Nigeria at present. Case studies from various examples of housing projects and incremental housing in developed and developing countries are looked into and analyzed so as to formulate an innovative approach to using architecture to provide solutions for this deficit in housing. The principle of formal incremental housing offers a cost-effective and accessible solution for the low-income earners. This thesis examines a model of housing that not only provides shelter but also an affordable, cost-effective approach to housing which would integrate into the cultural and society fabric of Nigeria's urban centers.
