Abstract (EN)

As the more increased urbanisation is the more unavoidable vertical settlements, importance of elevators that are vertical transportation systems is being more significant day by day. Safety regulations in elevators are considered well due to transportation of people in general and an overspeed governor which still could be technologically developed is one of the most important parts of a mechanical safety system. A summary of the studies made on elevators are presented in the first part of this thesis which is followed by technical developments seen in these systems through time. In the third part, general information about the mechanical systems used in elevators is given and the current overspeed governers are searched in depth. After that, springs as a mechanical system element is searched alongside with the usage of helical springs in overspeep governors. Mechanical behaviours of a helical spring whilst breaking are examined by changing the parameters within a mathematically modelled dynamic system. Moreover, difference between helical springs and belleville springs are exposed. Also, damping pads that are put between internal and external cabins are investigated in elevators in which helicel springs are used. Compliance of the modelled system with real life is examined by cheking the gained results according to EN-81 standards. The range between minimum and maximum permissible mass is showed in elevators which helicel spring is preferred in overspeed governors alongside with the consideration of standards. In order to be able to run and analyse the models, Simulink package of MatLAB software has been used.
