Social Life of the Period (XIII and XIV centuries) in Garib-nâme of Âşık Paşa In the Turkish history, XIII and XIV centuries were the period that many important events took place. This period was a difficult time scale, which saw the end of the State of Selcuk, which had left many traces for the future, and the beginning of the Ottoman state, which was going to establish huge civilisation. Garib-nâme is one of the important manuscripts in the Turkish literature and civilisation history. In this thesis, we investigate into the reflection of the century discussed in the Garib-nâme to its social life. Therefore, we could not leave the social life in the XIII and XIV centuries out of our work. Spiritual leaders who lived in this period also had positive effects in the civil life and played a leading role to the establishment of huge and civilised state. People gathered around these leaders who were trustable in the period when many important products in architectural, literature and intellectual were developed and difficulties in the social life were trying to get over. Âşık Paşa, around whom many people gathered as being an important person, wrote his book entitled ?Garib-nâme? under the circumstances in the period. His family also played important roles in getting over the difficulties in social life. We therefore think that Âşık Paşa, who lived in this very difficult time period, could not leave the issues related to social life of the period out of his book. The value of Garib-nâme became more evident when the period of it?s writing was considered. In addition, distribution of its copies to many national and international libraries of course proves the fact that it was widely read and accepted. In this thesis, Garib-nâme was investigated throughout and then verses that express thoughts related to the social life were revealed. The period of their writing and their effects in our own time is also discussed. In addition, it is that how the concepts and expressions that Asik Pasa wrote should be discussed and interpreted in terms of Turkish culture. The concepts were also compared with those seen in different Turkish communities and various works produced throughout Turkish history
