Abstract (EN)

Heavy Work Investment (HWI) is a concept that is observed more frequently and emerges when employees focus more on their professional activities and daily tasks by devoting more hours and intense effort to their work. It is suggested in the literature that excessive workload has positive and negative behavioral consequences. This study aimed to investigate the positive consequences of excessive workload on job performance and job satisfaction, and the negative consequences on presenteeism and burnout. The data of the study were collected from 390 banking sector employees using a survey technique. The relationships between the variables of the study and the hypothesis tests were tested with the help of covariance-based structural equation modeling (SEM). According to the findings, it was determined that the time commitment and work intensity dimensions of excessive workload had a positive and significant effect on presenteeism and burnout dimensions of emotional exhaustion and desensitization. On the other hand, it was observed that the time commitment dimension of HWI had no significant effect on job performance and low sense of accomplishment, while the work intensity dimension had a positive and significant effect on job performance and low sense of accomplishment dimensions of burnout. However, it was concluded that both dimensions of work overload did not have a significant effect on job satisfaction.
