Abstract (EN)

Hypertension is a considerable cause of many other serious diseases. It led to cardiovascular diseases and may cause premature death. Worldwide, several studies showed that adults are more vulnerable to hypertension because they had most of the hypertension factors. Therefore, a massive quantity of hypertension medication had been used all over the world to treat this disease and more financial budgets had been spent on treatment and education programs. A descriptive-correlational design was applied to measure the knowledge of the patients with hypertension. The study started on 8th Mar 2022. Data collection started on 17th May 2022 after the approval of DOH and ended on 18th Sep 2022. The study has a purposive sample that consists of 401 patients, 182 males and 219 females. Six participants had been excluded because of incorrect or uncompleted answers. Of the remaining 394 patients of 178 males and 216 had participated in the study by answering the questions. The study implements a pre-proposed assessment tool published by (Kumait 2015). A previously proposed evaluation tool published by Kumait (2015) was applied in the study. The tool consists of two parts: the first part: demographic data; This section consists of 8 items focusing on the patient's demographic characteristics (age, gender, marital status, residence, educational level, concomitant chronic disease, and income). Part Two: Knowledge; This section consists of 28 items focusing on informational characteristics for hypertensive patients. As a result of the study, the majority of the study participants were middle-aged (49-58 years old), about 33.5%, more than half (54.8%) were women, 88.3% were married, and 40.6% were literate. At the level of education: it was noted that 90.4% had a positive family history of high blood pressure and 72.4% had no additional chronic disease. consider outcomes in terms of levels of knowledge in the study; It was concluded that the knowledge levels of the patients changed according to their demographic information. It was determined that the level of knowledge of women was higher than that of men, those who lived in cities were higher than those who lived in rural areas, those without chronic diseases were more than those without chronic diseases, and those at younger ages were more knowledge with those who live in rural areas. In the study, there were differences between patients' educational levels in terms of signs and symptoms. When results are compared as a lifestyle; It was observed that the patients' lifestyle changed according to the age group, education, place of residence, and income, whether they had a chronic disease or not (p < 0.05). This study concluded that adults have good knowledge of arterial blood pressure and that the relationship between demographic information and signs and symptoms is highly significant, and further studies are needed.
