Assessment of the level of disability among people suffering from lower back pain in Al-Qadisiya city/ Iraq

Background: Lower back pain is pain and discomfort that occurs below the costal margin and above the inferior gluteal flexors in adults of all ages. Disablement is most often caused by LBP worldwide and is connected with a significant social and economic burden. Objectives: This study aims to assess the level of disability for people with lower back pain and determine the relationship between the levels of disability for people with lower back pain and socio-demographic characteristics. Methods: The study was a descriptive study conducted on patients with lower back pain at Al-Diwaniyah Teaching Hospital, Al-Qadisiya City/ Iraq. Cankiri Karatekın University Scientific Research Evaluation Ethical Committee granted ethical approval and permission for the researcher to begin studying the thesis and to facilitate the researcher's task to obtain information from participants under Resolution (No:25, Date:21/4/2022). Also, obtaining permission from the Iraqi Ministry of Health on (No.: 22, Date: 3/25/2022). The study sample was 450 patients with the Level of Disability among People Suffering from Lower Back Pain in Al-Qadisiya City. The method used is to collect data from the study sample through questions directed to patients face-to-face about lower back pain. The sample was collected in (Diwaniyah Teaching Hospital in Al-Qadisiyah / Iraq) between 15.3.2022 - 15.10.2022). Study Questionnaire that Includes: The Socio-Demographic Form, The Quebec Back Pain Disability Scale, and The Oswestry Index for Low Back Pain and IPAQ. Results: Findings according overall from the Quebec Disability Scale for Back Pain indicate that (89.8 %) of patients were severe pain and disability level; findings according of over all of The Oswestry Disability Index indicate that (64.9%) of patients were severe disability level and findings according to the overall of The International Physical Activity Questionnaire indicate that the (56.9%) of patients were low activity levels level. In the current study, there was a statistically significant effect between the patient's age, educational status, occupation, previous illness, duration of diagnosis, weight, and people who lived with who with lower back pain. With a significance level of ≥0.05. Conclusion: Lower back pain is more common in people under age 65, male, and illiterate. Married couples, working people, and people with chronic diseases more often experience lower back pain. There were statistically significant differences between participants' age, educational status, occupation, previous disease, duration of diagnosis, weight, life, and marital status on the Quebec Back Pain Disability Scale.
