Abstract (EN)

Infection control measures are essential strategies in controlling and preventing healthcare-associated infections. These strategies include hand hygiene, personal protection tools, medical waste management, cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, and others. The study aims to assess nurses' knowledge about infection control measures at primary health care centers. A descriptive study (cross-sectional design) has been done on a non-probability (purposive) sample of 200 nurses working at primary health care centers in Al-Diwaniya City. A developer instrument from previous studies and guidelines was used, it consisted of one domain that contained (28) multiple-choice questions. Frequencies, percentages, mean of scores, and pearson's correlation coefficients, also Anova, post hoc test, and mann-whitney u were used to analyzing the data collected. The study finding shows that the nurses' knowledge about infection control was poor by a frequency 54.5 at mean of score 1.32. Also, the study revealed a significant difference between nurses' knowledge and their age, level of education, and years of experience at p. value < 0.05. The study recommended to activate the work of the Iraqi national health guidelines related to infection control for the year 2012 and 2009, and conducting educational programs to develop nurses' knowledge and practices regarding infection control measures.
