Abstract (EN)

In this study, gill nets which 28, 32, 36 mm mesh size was determinated thecharecteristics of their selectivity. The study was carried out between October 2005 and 2006May. Selection method developed by Holt (1963) was used to find the selectivity parametersof the gill nets. The optimum catch lengths of European chub were estimated 23.06, 26.36 and 29,65cm for 28, 32 and 36 mm mesh size, respectively. Common selection factor and standarddeviation were determinated as 8,238 and 1,687, respectively.Lenghts at first maturity of European chub in Atikhisar Dam were compared with theoptimum catching lenghts of the monofilament gill net. Gill nets 28-32-36 mm mesh sizedo not cause the overfishing on the European Chub population.Key Words: Selectivity, Mesh size, Atikhisar Dam, European Chub
